                                       Chapter 1.1: Basics of Public Speaking

        A recent study published in Science Daily (2009) reports human infants begin learning language in the womb, and have the ability to memorize sounds, melodies, and voices before even being born. For example, a mother’s voice is preferred for infants after birth, as are songs and sounds they were exposed to in the womb. The fact that our minds develop with a strong dedication to learning language as a primary focus from early on is an excellent predictor of its overall importance in our life. Since communication is a primary development function, learning how to communicate effectively is a skill that needs to be developed properly and learned through practice and critique.

Extensinve Reading

What is extensive reading?
Extensive reading is reading as much as possible, for your own pleasure, at a difficulty level at which you can read smoothly and quickly without looking up words or translating to English as you go. In other words, instead of spending a half hour decoding a tiny part of one book (also known as intensive reading), you read many simpler books that are at or slightly below the level at which you read fluently. This lets you get used to reading more complex sentences with ease, reinforces the words you already know and helps you learn new words from context.
What are the principles of extensive reading?
Start with stories that are well below your fluent reading level, and while reading, follow these principles:
1. Don’t look up words in the dictionary.
2. Skip over parts you don’t understand.
3. If you aren’t enjoying one book, toss it aside and get another.

Langkah-langkah Pembuatan PTK

A. PENGERTIAN

           Belakangan ini Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) semakin menjadi trend untuk dilakukan oleh para profesional sebagai upaya pemecahan masalah dan peningkatan mutu di berbagai bidang. Awal mulanya, PTK, ditujukan untuk mencari solusi terhadap masalah sosial (pengangguran, kenakalan remaja, dan lain-lain) yang berkembang di masyarakat pada saat itu. PTK dilakukan dengan diawali oleh suatu kajian terhadap masalah tersebut secara sistematis. Hal kajian ini kemudian dijadikan dasar untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Dalam proses pelaksanaan rencana yang telah disusun, kemudian dilakukan suatu observasi dan evaluasi yang dipakai sebagai masukan untuk melakukan refleksi atas apa yang terjadi pada tahap pelaksanaan. Hasil dari proses refeksi ini kemudian melandasi upaya perbaikan dan peryempurnaan rencana tindakan berikutnya. Tahapan-tahapan di atas dilakukan berulang-ulang dan berkesinambungan sampai suatu kualitas keberhasilan tertentu dapat tercapai.

Why Should I Learn English?

English is one of the most widely spoken languages

Although it comes second to Mandarin in the total number of speakers, English is the language you’ll be able to use most widely, as it’s spoken in more countries than any other language. That means that English is the language that will give you the best return for your efforts; after all, intellectual challenge aside, there’s little point putting a huge amount of time and effort into learning a language that you’ll hardly ever have the opportunity to use. As well as the UK, a whopping 60 of the world’s 196 countries have English as their official language:  the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, to name but a few. It’s the language of diplomacy and the official language of the European Union, the United Nations, NATO and the European Free Trade Association, not to mention many Commonwealth countries. What’s more, English is the commonly adopted second language of people in a great many more countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Holland. In total, around 1.5 billion people speak English worldwide – and another billion are in the process of learning it. Will you make this number even bigger by learning yourself?
